I am a regular consumer of this platform and don't tend to enjoy a lot of ads, especially the ones you can't skip. In the article, YouTube sets stricter rules on videos that can carry ads we learn more about the rules and restrictions being added for people to be able to include ads, on their videos. Some things they talked about are the number of subscribers and views a channel must have to be able to get ad revenue. They also talked about how they are now reviewing all videos and get to decide if they are friendly enough to include on YouTube, Another thing they get to decide if they have committed an offense against the rules added. Lastly, they talk about how advertisers are going to be allowed to choose what type of content their ads can appear on.
This is relevant in the marketing world because it is a way for companies to be able to influence people to buy their products and carefully choose the platform they want by what the creator makes. Ads always have a specific target market they try to hit and by being able to choose what people they can show their ads to they can generate more customers. To explain what can be done to fight the new rules of YouTube I will be using my favorite YouTubers right now: Kian and Jc.
This is an "employee" that has struggled to keep up with the new rules that YouTube has implemented. They create a lot of original content but most of it is not considered friendly since their content targets people 17 and older. They haven't been getting many ads or revenue from their videos due to some strikes YouTube has been making against them. To fight this they have partnered up with a brand that aligns with their age demographics. Seatgeek is an app that can help people buy any type of tickets, easily and with a bonus of 20 dollars off on their first purchase. This is a way that can help the third parties decide if these are videos they want to place their ads on. If I were Kian and Jc, I would try to see if things related to event tickets would sponsor my videos as well. Them having a video sponsor has influenced the ads placed on their videos, since I have seen hotel ads more often. I think it's a creative way to combat what YouTube has changed since they are finding their ways to earn income, which benefits them all.
This article has taught me that there are many ways ads can hurt or help content creators. I have also learned that there is a way to find companies that are willing to help create your content if you place their ads or talk about them during some parts.
